It may not have the pre-release Internet buzz of the hiss-poor Snakes On A Plane, but “Stargate: Atlantis” star David Hewlett’s micro-budgeted comedy A Dog’s Breakfast is benefiting from fan support in other positive ways. Hewlett, who plays geek favorite Dr. Rodney McKay on the show, focused the show’s fans into a formidable marketing force for the film, about a man jealous of his sister’s new fiancé. “People used to joke that on the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog,” Hewlett says on www.ADogsBreakfastMovie.com. “Thanks to A Dog’s Breakfast on the Internet, everyone knows our dog!” Hewlett not only parlayed the buzz into a distribution deal with MGM, which made the film available on iTunes and Amazon Unbox this week, but also managed to get a TV pilot, too. A Dog’s Breakfast hits DVD September 18th, defying the traditional theatrical/DVD/PPV/download model and possibly paving the way for other homespun, grassroots efforts to get more widely seen. –Elizabeth Meyer
