BLAST FROM THE PAST - Little Benny Affleck

Click to learn more about ‘The Voyage of the Mimi.’Over a dozen years before Ben Affleck (and buddy Matt Damon) won the Oscar for writing Good Will Hunting, he starred in a 1984 PBS series for kids called “The Voyage of the Mimi.” Affleck played C.T. Granville, whose grandfather, played by real-life M.I.T. scientist and owner of the boat, Peter Marston, captained the whaling vessel-turned-science craft. During the Mimi’s ocean voyages, middle school viewers would learn valuable lessons about science and math. The boat, still seaworthy and docked in Boston, was moored in Gloucester, Mass., and toured various East Coast ports like Salem and Boston, where it was a popular tourist attraction. A sequel series, “The Second Voyage of the Mimi,” was produced in 1988, and while both are only available on video to educators, we have a clip below to prove that the show actually did exist:
