THE BROTHERS SOLOMON [R]
Well-versed angry old punk icon Henry Rollins once suggested that a person should be able to sue for having his or her time wasted. It’s a good thing for studio Sony that this is not the law, otherwise there would be a couple million people lining up to go all class action on the asses of the purveyors of this puerile piffle on Monday morning. Featured “SNL” player Will Forte, who also wrote this alleged comedy (and possibly in crayon), and Will Arnett (“Arrested Development”) play idiot brothers in search of a surrogate mother so that before their comatose father (Lee Majors) dies, he can have a grandchild. Forte plays the same character he has played on “SNL” since 2002 — the uncomfortable smile, the meticulous deadpan delivery, the neuter Ken doll appeal. He has somehow huckleberried the otherwise talented Arnett into playing this lame Dumb & Dumber routine with him, and it is about as enjoyable as simultaneous Chinese water torture, a fully invasive tax audit and salt water body piercing. Perhaps on Bizarro World this is high hilarity, but here, it is desperate pandering, an amateur night where we laugh more at ourselves for letting strangers corral us into a dark room so they can lighten our wallets. –Robert Newton
